sandwich making

Like a little chef, that’s what he said he is in this photo.  “Mommy, this one’s for you…” he said.

It’s good to have activities where kids experience adult-stuff, I mean like preparing sandwiches. Could be basic but these things are big for them. It goes the same when they are allowed to help with house chores, cooking and baking and even washing the dishes. I once read somewhere: “Do not handicap your children by making their lives easy.” Easy, perhaps in the sense that we parents give them eveything readily or that we don’t want them to experience what we had as kids when all our parents wanted was for us to learn.

Times are changing and it is quite different now than our generation but we should try our best to prepare our kids for what’s ahead. Yes, even when just making a sandwich.

Books, Still the Perfect Gift

Developing an interest in reading at an early age is important. Reading is a gateway into learning other important life skills, such as understanding vocabulary or being able to read street signs. Starting at a young age can also help the child’s brain to develop at a faster rate, causing them to excel in their studies once they finally enter school.

Children have very short attention spans, so keeping their interest can be difficult. Many authors will accomplish this by having simple, fast moving plot lines and very colorful pictures to go with their stories. Children who are read to will slowly begin to recognize the words in the book, and if the book has captivated their interests, they will develop a natural want to read the book.

Parents can also help by reading stories their children take a personal interest in. Personalized books that include the child’s name can make a great gift and be a way to grab their attention. Several story books are available that can introduce your child to fun characters and spark their imagination. A personalized story throws your child into the book, making them all the more interested in learning this important life skill.

Spending time with the family in outdoor activities results to emotional bonding and close relationship, I believe so. Simple activities as playing chess, watching tv and even eating together is a good bonding.

This is why we also see to it that we watch a movie with Matt once in a while.

Making your Child Love Fruits

Rambutan, fresh from harvest

Where I grew up, fruits are an everyday fare. From mangoes to papaya, from soursops and jackfruits, from bananas to pineapples, name it we have it! Save of course for the imported fruits that ain’t growing in this tropical region.

Friends, close relatives would often give us some of their harvests and aren’t we so lucky?! Yes, we are, we have a few papaya trees, soursop, santol, caimitos and those around our yard but friends have their farmlands with vast plantation – corn, mangoes, rambutan and other fruits!

To this day, we still get some as gifts from them, like the rambutan above given by my godfather for Matt. And I say, he surely loves the sweet, juicy flesh of rambutan.

There are many ways you can make your kids love fruits. First is of course to make them available all the time. Buy them fresh and lay them out on the table where your child can easily get them.

Take a trip to the market and show him the different kind of fruits.

Take a trip to the farm and make your child experience the country-side. Have him or her pick fruits, of course, ask permission from the farm owner.

Lastly, eat fruits too, you are the best example your child can have in eating healthy, yummy fruits.

Team Work

dad-preschool-son-on-shoulders-jerseysIf you are a huge fan of any major sports team, it’s important to make sure that you bring your children into the spirit of the team as early as possible. With Dallas Cowboys baby clothes at BabyFans.com, you can make sure that your children will grow up to support the right team from day one. Whether you have been a Cowboys fan since the day you were born or you have just recently started to follow the team, it is rather vital to make sure that your children grow up to support the same teams as you.

You never want to create a divide in the house when it comes to which team everyone follows, and that is especially true when it comes to football. This is a sport where emotion and passion tend to rule over everything else, so you need to make sure that your children are putting their support behind the team that you love. There is nothing wrong with letting a child choose a different team later in life, but you should try to get them to throw their support behind your team from an early age. The main reason you may want to try to do this is to give yourself an extra bond with your child. People who enjoy following the same team tend to get along with each other more than people who are fans of rival teams, so it is important to build on this bond from an early age.

Getting back to the basics: quilts

earthpatchquiltThere are some decorative accessories that have the amazing ability to influence the atmosphere of a room just as soon as you bring them in. An example of such an influential accessory is a patchwork quilt. When you are contemplating updating a bedroom decor or decorating a bedroom in your new home, there are several reasons why you should consider incorporating a patchwork quilt into the design. First and foremost, patchwork quilts are beautiful.

Regardless of what color scheme you choose or what specific patchwork design you select, the quilt actually becomes a piece of artistry in the room. Typically, the bed is the focal point of a bedroom design. Using a patchwork quilt as your bed covering will make the room’s focal point tremendously more impressive. Another reason to choose a patchwork quilt as your bed covering is it’s simplicity. Current decor trends emphasize the value of keeping your decor simple. Understated beauty is a priority. When you add a gorgeous quilt to your bed, there’s no need to add lots of other accessories. A bedskirt and possibly a few pillows are all you need to make your bed exquisitely attractive.

Eliminating the need for lots of frills and fancy accessories leaves more money in the decorating budget. You can concentrate on purchasing high quality, beautifully simplistic bedding such as that found at Linens-N-More. Their magnificent quilts will make your master bedroom, guest room or kid’s room look absolutely stunning.

For our Furry Friends

Most of us are never alone. Whether we live alone or with friends and family, we go to work, to the store, to the restaurant, or even ride the bus or hang out in traffic. As human beings, we socialize every day whether we want it or not. While sometimes we never realize this factor and how helpful it is to our well-being, we sometimes forget that our pets need to socialize, too.

walkdogIn our busy lives, we make promises to our animals that we will take them for a walk, maybe a ride in the car or even get them another pet to spend time with while we are not at home. But while we make these promises, hectic schedules and the demands of modern life sometimes takes precedence over the needs of our beloved pets. Lately, there has been a rise in the cases of aggression in animals and more cases are reported of separation anxiety in our four-legged loved ones as furniture and clothes are destroyed while we go on with our busy lives.

The truth is pets need to have a social life, too. Whether it is taking them to the nearest dog park for some time with fellow canines or setting up play dates for your feline, animals need time among their peers just as much as humans do. To help develop a social life for your pet, a good way to do that is to join the social network for pets at PetNetWorld.com. By joining a social network, it is the best way to share the life of your pets with others who understand the joys and demands of animal lovers.

Odor Free, we’re happy!

No matter where they are, offensive odors are bad business. In a commercial environment, they can turn customers away. In the home, they can make occupants miserable. But all is not lost. OdorFreeMachines has a solution to the worst odor problems: ozone generators. How it works Ozone (O3), the triatomic allotrope of oxygen, is a powerful oxidizer. This means that it bonds to and neutralizes odors at the molecular level. Simply turn the machine on and leave the area while it works, then return to a fresh, odorless environment.

Ozone gets everywhere, even into ducts and crawl spaces that would be impossible to reach otherwise. It not only deodorizes but disinfects, killing bacteria, mold and even crawling insects. Applications Ozone shock treatment can be used to deodorize any environment, from homes, offices and retail spaces to cars and boats. Ozone generators eliminate the smell of tobacco smoke and pet accidents as well as food odors and the scent of mold and mildew. The treatment leaves private homes, hotel rooms and recreational vehicles smelling clean and fresh. Even moist areas like pool houses and saunas smell clean after the ozone machine does its work. Trace amounts of ozone occur naturally in the environment. The larger amounts generated by the ozone machine decay quickly, leaving treated areas safe, sanitary and odor free. Ozone generators come in three sizes to leave any space smelling clean easily and inexpensively.

Knowing more about the beef on our table

Floorscalesdirect.com sells livestock scales to stockyards, veterinarian clinics and anyone who has the need to know the weight of a large animal such as a cow or horse. The use of these scales help farmers monitor the weight of their herd and make dietary changes if necessary. They help veterinarians get the correct dosage for an animal that is sick. They also help farmers get the most money for their stock when they are weighed at market.

angus beef….but before that…

Some Angus and Herefords can weigh over 2,000 pounds. Feeder cattle are commodities that are traded right along with other commodities like oil, silver and gold. Feeder cattle are those weaned calves that are sold to feed lots to fatten for the market. They are taken to the lot at approximately 600 pounds. They are ready for the market when they are over 1,000 pounds. This can take a few months to accomplish. These cattle are then sold for beef consumption. Between the gestation period and the time it takes to get the calf to market weight, two years can pass.

All commodities are the same regardless of where the commodity comes from in the world. That is why they are exchanged at market value. They are traded on a margin, and they have a contract size. The contract size for feeder cattle happens to be 50,000 pounds. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is responsible for the trading of feeder cattle contracts in the United States. The Brazilian market trades at the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange.
